Dug up water line from house

Sewer & Water Line Repair for Virginia Peninsula Homes

Sewer and water line issues are some of the most stressful plumbing problems homeowners face. They’re buried underground, so you can’t see what’s happening. The signs are often confusing — slow drains, soggy spots in the yard, low water pressure, or a sewer smell you can’t track down.

That’s why we start every job with accurate diagnosis. Guessing means digging in the wrong place or fixing the wrong problem. Our plumbing team uses sewer camera inspections to see exactly what’s going on inside your pipes before recommending a solution. You’ll see the footage yourself, understand the problem, and get upfront pricing before any work begins.

We handle everything from spot repairs to full sewer and water line replacements across the Virginia Peninsula, and we always present the most cost-effective option for your situation.

Sewer Line Repair Options

Spot Repair

When camera inspection reveals damage in one specific section, we can repair just that section without replacing the entire line. We excavate the damaged area, replace the affected pipe, and connect it to the existing line. This is the most cost-effective option when the rest of the pipe is in good condition.

Best for: Single cracks, localized root damage, one offset joint, or a short section of deterioration.

Trenchless Sewer Repair (Pipe Lining)

Trenchless technology allows us to repair your sewer line from the inside, without digging a trench across your yard. A flexible liner coated with resin is inserted through an access point, inflated against the pipe walls, and cured in place. The result is essentially a new pipe inside the old one.

Best for: Pipes with multiple cracks, joint separations, or moderate root intrusion along the length — where the pipe’s shape is still intact but the walls are compromised. Ideal for homeowners who want to avoid disrupting landscaping, driveways, or hardscaping.

Full Sewer Line Replacement

When the pipe is collapsed, severely bellied, or too deteriorated for lining, full replacement is the right call. We excavate the old pipe and install a new one — typically high-density PVC that will last 50+ years.

Best for: Collapsed pipes, severely bellied sections, Orangeburg pipe (a tar-paper material common in mid-century homes that deteriorates badly), or situations where the old pipe is beyond repair.

Sewer Camera Inspection — See the Problem Before You Dig

Since your sewer and water lines are buried beneath the ground, you probably won’t be able to visually inspect them for signs of damage. If you notice signs of water or sewer line damage at your home, it’s important to call a reputable plumbing company for help right away. Cracked, corroded, leaking, and broken pipes can cause serious property damage, and the sooner you address the problem the better. Worley’s Home Services is a licensed and insured contractor, and we comply with all code and regulation requirements to protect you and your home. Keep in mind that rusty or discolored water — especially when it comes only from your hot taps — may point to tank corrosion rather than a line issue; in those cases, our licensed plumbers are also available for water heater repair in Hampton Roads to get to the root cause fast.

Tell-tale signs that your water or sewer line is broken

  • Unusual gurgling sounds coming from your toilet
  • Slow-draining sinks, showers, or bathtubs
  • Noticeable sewer backup in your toilet, sinks, or bathtub
  • Significantly greener grass around your sewage pipes
  • Wet spots, puddles, or flooding in your yard
  • A change in the taste, color, or smell of your tap water
  • Changes in water pressure at one or multiple faucets

If these symptoms — particularly discolored water or sudden pressure changes — are isolated to your hot water supply, they may point to a deteriorating tank rather than a line issue; our water heater repair in Newport News team can quickly diagnose whether your water heater is the root cause.

Are you looking for a local sewer line company or water line company you can trust in Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, Norfolk, or Newport News? Call Worley’s Home Services today. Our plumbers are licensed professionals who will solve your sewer or water problems fast so that you can get back to life as usual. We’ll get to the root of the problem and recommend the most efficient and cost-effective solution to get your sewer or water line back in good working order. If water line damage has also affected your hot water system, our team handles water heater installation in Gloucester and throughout the Virginia Peninsula.

Your water line brings fresh water from the municipal main to your home. When it develops a leak or fails, you’ll notice low water pressure, unexplained high water bills, wet spots in the yard, or discolored water.

Water line leak repair — We locate the leak, excavate the affected area, and repair or replace the damaged section. For small leaks in otherwise healthy pipe, spot repair is usually sufficient.

Full water line replacement — Older homes on the Peninsula may have galvanized steel or polybutylene water lines that are prone to corrosion and failure. Replacing the line with modern copper or PEX piping eliminates ongoing problems and improves water pressure and quality.

Signs your water line needs attention:

  • Water meter running when all fixtures are off  quickly diagnose whether your water heater is the root cause.
  • Unexplained increase in water bills
  • Low water pressure that’s getting worse over time
  • Wet or soggy spots in the yard between your home and the street
  • Discolored or rusty water
  • Visible corrosion on exposed pipe sections

Why Peninsula Homes Face Unique Sewer & Water Line Challenges

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my sewer line is broken?

The most common signs are recurring backups or slow drains in multiple fixtures, gurgling sounds from drains, sewage smells inside or outside your home, soggy or unusually green patches in the yard, and foundation cracks near sewer line runs. A camera inspection provides definitive answers.

Does homeowner’s insurance cover sewer line repair?

Standard homeowner’s insurance typically does not cover sewer line repair due to normal wear, aging, or tree root damage. Some policies offer optional sewer line coverage as a rider. Check your policy or ask your agent. Regardless of coverage, addressing sewer problems quickly prevents more expensive damage to your home and property.

What is trenchless sewer repair?

Trenchless repair (pipe lining) rehabilitates your sewer line from the inside without digging a full trench. A resin-coated liner is inserted into the pipe, expanded, and cured in place, creating a new pipe inside the old one. It’s less disruptive than traditional replacement and often comparable in cost.

How long does sewer line replacement take?

A full sewer line replacement typically takes 1–3 days depending on the line length, depth, and obstacles like driveways or landscaping. Spot repairs can often be completed in a single day. Trenchless lining is usually a 1–2 day process.

How long do new sewer lines last?

Modern PVC sewer pipes have an expected lifespan of 50–100 years. Trenchless pipe lining is rated for 50+ years. Either option means you’re unlikely to deal with sewer line problems again in your lifetime.

What is Orangeburg pipe and why is it a problem?

Orangeburg is a lightweight pipe made from layers of tar-impregnated paper, commonly installed in homes built between the 1940s and 1970s. It was inexpensive but has a limited lifespan — most Orangeburg pipes are now well past their expected 30–50 year life. They flatten, crack, and deteriorate, causing chronic sewer problems. If your Peninsula home has Orangeburg, replacement is almost always the best long-term solution.

I had a clogged drain line that I was unable to clear myself that was backing up into my tub and shower. After seeing the problem inside the house, Noah went outside and started searching for the main drain line towards the street and eventually found it, at which point he gave me several options as to how to proceed. He was very professional and very helpful and answered all of my questions. If I ever need a plumber again I will request Noah!

Called Worley because I had a leak on my incoming water line outside. I was quoted a ridiculous high amount from another company. Worley sent out their plumber Kameron on a Saturday morning. once he got here, he immediately went to work.(fastest efficient worker I have seen in my life lol) He went directly to the problem, informed me of the issues, and once agreed on price, went straight back at it. He fixed the issue, and the price- I was very satisfied with it! He was drenched in mud, he was wet, and Kameron still had a smile. I would recommend Worleys to anyone.

I contacted Worley’s for a plumbing issue. My technician Parish called to say he could arrive about an hour sooner than my projected appointment window which was great. He was very professional and courteous and explained everything he did. I feel their pricing very reasonable compared to another company that was used in the past. Will definitely look to utilize Worley’s for future needs.
